The new 190,000 BGSF multi-story surgical and clinical space tower on the West Haven DVA campus represents a transformative step in enhancing healthcare delivery for veterans. By addressing critical programmatic deficiencies in Surgical, SICU, Laboratory, and Sterile Processing Services, this project is poised to significantly improve patient care and reduce infection risks within the facility.

The project also includes the demolition of outdated structures, Buildings 6 through 10, and the renovation of approximately 40,000 GSF in existing buildings, further modernizing the campus. However, the project comes with its share of challenges, including the need for an exterior façade hardening due to proximity constraints, seismic design considerations, and the complexities of utility planning within a crowded and constrained site.

Despite these challenges, the Value Team has developed innovative solutions to ensure the success of the project. These include revising utility plans and optimizing construction logistics.  Additionally, the Value Team developed proposals to eliminate unnecessary vertical expansion and reduce interstitial floors to improve the efficiency and resiliency new tower.

This project exemplifies the commitment to delivering state-of-the-art medical facilities that meet the highest standards of care while navigating the complexities of modern construction in a constrained and active campus environment.
