The Old and New Barracks, significant landmarks since their initial construction in 1864, have undergone various transformations, culminating in their recognition as a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and the VMI Post as a National Historic District in 1974. The latest project honors this legacy by replacing all existing exterior windows and frames, conducting restorative repairs to surrounding walls, and installing new roller shades, window hinges, and hardware to maintain operability. Preserving the Gothic style, the project includes replacing the existing 1/2″ diameter painted security bars with new steel bars of similar design.

SVS has provided comprehensive Cost Estimating services to guide this project, including a schematic design submission, a preliminary design submission, and a working drawings submission. This careful planning and dedication to precision ensure that the Old and New Barracks will continue to stand as a testament to architectural resilience and historical reverence, ready to serve future generations while retaining their storied past.
